I’ve worked in education for 17 years. After graduating from Lubbock Christian University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (emphasis in Computer Information Systems and English), I worked at the Lubbock Avalanche Journal for a short time. I helped organize their program, Newspapers In Education, and assisted local school districts and organized many different public events for the AJ, including the Lubbock County spelling bee.
As a classroom teacher, I taught several different subjects including English, Business Computers, computer programming, web mastering, multimedia, digital yearbook and broadcasting. During those 8 years, I helped with professional training and professional development workshops put on in-house.
In 2008, I began working as the elementary Instructional Technologist for the district. This role allowed me to work more closely with teachers, but also, periodically, work with students, as well. The intent as an IT is to plan with teachers, co-teach, model & coach teachers as they integrate digital tools with their existing curriculum. As our district needs changed, I began working with both the elementary schools and the secondary schools.
In 2011, I began working solely at Celina HS where I began focusing more on using devices in classrooms. I offer weekly technology trainings for teachers to keep them informed of all the newest professional learning networks, digital tools, and techniques for implementing technology.
I’ve presented at various technology conferences and started doing a little consulting. I won a trip from BrainPop to Arizona to the Mobile Learning Conference in 2011. That conference changed my life and perspective on teaching and the next year I was lucky enough to get to present at the same conference. In addition, I’ve presented at iPadpalooza and Texas Computer Education Association.
I’ve offered several parenting & technology classes as well as helped with implementing iPads and laptops in a 1: 1 environment.
