I’ve worked in education for 20 years. After graduating from Lubbock Christian University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (emphasis in Computer Information Systems and English), I worked at the Lubbock Avalanche Journal for a short time. I helped organize their program, Newspapers In Education, and assisted local school districts and organized many different public events for the AJ, including the Lubbock County spelling bee.
As a classroom teacher, I taught several different subjects including English, Business Computers, computer programming, web mastering, multimedia, digital yearbook and broadcasting. During those 8 years, I helped with professional training and professional development workshops put on in-house.
In 2008, I began working as the elementary Instructional Technologist Specialist for the district. This role allowed me to work more closely with teachers, but also, periodically, work with students, as well. The intent as an IT is to plan with teachers, co-teach, model & coach teachers as they integrate digital tools with their existing curriculum. As our district needs changed, I began working with both the elementary schools and the secondary schools.
In 2011, I began working solely at Celina HS where I began focusing more on integrating devices in classrooms. I offered weekly technology trainings for teachers to keep them informed of all the newest professional learning networks, digital tools, and techniques for implementing technology and most recently have began work with the PLC teams on our campus.
Since that time, my title has changed to Digital Learning Specialist and I’ve presented at various technology conferences around the country and consulted for other educators and schools as needed. In 2018, I was named a finalist as the TCEA Instructional Technologist of the Year. In addition to offering parenting & technology classes I have also helped to implement devices to create a 1:1 learning environment.
In December of 2019, I will graduate from UNT with a Masters of Science in Learning Technologies. This coursework and study has assisted me in becoming the best instructional coach I can be as I work along teachers to empower students to succeed in their learning goals.
My passion and goal is to work with other educators who are interested in opportunities to use technology to help students meet their learning goals as well as the chance to work on innovative projects with those who share the same passion.
